Elisabeth Román is the Director of the Office for Hispanic and Ethnic Ministries in the Diocese of Joliet, IL. She is a mother of two sons and grandmother of three. Román has a Master in Public Administration and a BA in Political Science and Latin American Studies from the University of Illinois - Chicago.
She was part of the leadership team that coordinated V Encuentro process in the Archdiocese of Chicago and served eight years as an editor in Claretian Publications - Hispanic Ministry Resource Center.
Román is currently the President of the National Catholic Council for Hispanic Ministry (NCCHM) and the National Chair of the 6th National Catholic Leadership Congress on Hispanic Ministry - Raices y Alas 2022. She also serves on the Bishop's Leadership Council - Diocese of Joliet; the Board of Directors of the National Catholic Reporter; and Bread for the World's Latino Advisory Board.
With extensive experience in publishing and communications, Román has been recognized with several awards for excellence in journalism, including two Catholic Press Awards; Medal of Excellence in Journalism - Puerto Rico Chapter of United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization (UNESCO); Zenith Award for Outstanding Journalism-Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce; and Special Resolution - Recognition for Excellence in Journalism, Puerto Rico Senate.
